Lidding Stock Innovation Debuts in North
America
North American rollout by MAPS follows
successful European introduction; versatile lidding stock
seals to all packaging substrates for microwaveables and
ovenables, simplifying food packagers’ inventories
and cutting costs.
BALTIMORE, MD—JANUARY 8,
2004—An innovative lidding stock, ideal for
microwaveables and ovenables, has been introduced in North
America by Baltimore, MD-based flexible packaging converter
Mid Atlantic Packaging Supply (MAPS). (Click

MAPS’ new lidding stock seals to
all substrates popularly used for microwaveable and dual
ovenable packaging applications, including APET, CPET, PVC,
PE, PS, PP and more.
Until now, each packaging substrate has
typically required its own special-purpose lidding stock.
The new film’s exceptional versatility means packagers
of microwaveable and dual ovenable foods can streamline
or eliminate their inventories of application-specific lidding
stocks and rely instead on a single, all-purpose product.
In addition, rapid product delivery
by MAPS—in as little as six weeks from receipt of
order—means food packagers can reduce their inventories
of lidding stock dramatically. Currently, typical delivery
lead-time for traditional lidding stocks can run as long
as 20 weeks.
MAPS’ robust converting and
package-printing capabilities enable the firm to deliver
any food packager from as little as 3,000 pounds to as much
as a truckload or more of the new lidding stock in about
one-fourth that time.
Besides cutting inventory costs
and complexities, food packagers will also reduce their
materials costs by adopting MAPS’ new lidding stock.
The product competes favorably
against seal and peel films produced by leading manufacturers
such as Dupont and Cryovac, offering packagers additional
direct savings on materials.
The technology complies with all
pertinent FDA regulations governing ovenable food packaging.
MAPS’ new lidding stock has
been in use throughout the European markets for more than
three years by major food packagers, including Northern
Foods, Heinz Europe and Oscar Mayer.
“Our North American rollout
is a perfect example of a product whose time has come,”
says Scott Manning, executive vice president.
“In these tight economic
times, food packagers are demanding that suppliers find
ways to help them cut overall production costs,” Manning
continues. “On that count, MAPS’ new lidding
stock scores big.”
